 Evonne Hicks is a resilient individual with a remarkable journey defined by courage, perseverance, and a commitment to thriving against all odds. As a loving daughter, single parent of a special needs child, domestic violence survivor, innovative business owner, and disabled war veteran, Evonne embodies the spirit of resilience and triumph.

Raised in the vibrant DMV vicinity, Evonne's path led her through the halls of DC public schools, culminating in her graduation from H.D. Woodson Senior High School. Her decision to enlist in the military opened doors to diverse cultures, rich traditions, and delectable cuisines, yet it also brought forth challenges. Amidst the camaraderie, Evonne confronted bias treatment, battled with major depression, PTSD, and night terrors, and faced discrimination and sexual misconduct. Despite these tribulations, she emerged with an unyielding resolve to thrive.

Upon retiring from the military, Evonne confronted her inner demons and sought solace through therapeutic counseling, a decision often stigmatized within her community. Through therapy, she unearthed memories of resilience from her childhood, reminiscing about the close-knit Village Green neighborhood and the strong, dignified black working women who adorned themselves in elegance and grace.

As Evonne embarked on her healing journey, she discovered the transformative power of self-expression through fashion. Embracing vibrant colors and stylish ensembles, she noticed a shift in her demeanor and received compliments that uplifted her spirits. Inspired by this newfound confidence, Evonne transitioned from a consumer to a producer, founding "E JACKS APPAREL" in April 2021.

E JACKS APPAREL stands as a testament to Evonne's resilience and creativity, offering a curated selection of unique textiles, colors, and adorations across a range of merchandise. Simultaneously, Evonne pursued her academic aspirations, returning to Bowie State University to complete her degree in science, graduating with honors in May 2019.

Today, Evonne's mission extends beyond fashion and academia. She is dedicated to serving her community in the DMV area and beyond, spreading a message of hope and empowerment. Her motto, "Depression cannot define your circumference; you define your circumference," encapsulates her unwavering belief in the power of self-definition and resilience.
